ARCHBOLD.ORG • WINTER 2018 3 Rising above the storm In October, Hurricane Michael came through our Archbold service area and the communities we all call home. Prior to landfall of the most powerful hurricane to hit Georgia in over a century, Archbold began systemwide planning. Multiple meetings were held to ensure that we were prepared, well-staffed and had the necessary supplies for our facilities across the region to weather the storm. Archbold’s Emergency Operations Center and incident command locations at our system facilities were opened. We activated Archbold’s Emergency Operations Plan. And we carefully watched the storm gain strength as it headed toward us. Many of our physicians, clinical staff and support staff left their families and homes to spend long hours and, in some cases, multiple nights at our facilities to make sure our patients were well cared for. Many stayed not knowing exactly when they would be able to return home or what would await them once they did. Our team worked around the clock to ensure that our patients were cared for and our employ- ees and visitors remained safe. And despite some difficult and uncomfortable circumstances, the actions of our team provided uninterrupted care to our patients and nursing home residents at a time when they needed us most. It’s important to remember that it still remains a difficult time for some people in our com- munity, as well as members of our Archbold family, who have suffered loss and discomfort. But because it’s our people that make Archbold such a special place, I’m confident we will continue to work together and support one another as we recover from the storm. This is by far the most powerful weather event of its kind to impact our region in decades. I’m very proud of the way our Archbold team rallied around one another to respond to the event. And to each of you, I would personally like to say thank you for a job very well done. J. Perry Mustian President and CEO, Archbold Medical Center Why I give Inpatient hospice care, in a dedicated unit, is a cru- cial health service that has been missing in our area. I’m proud to support the John B. and Elizabeth V. Wight Inpatient Hospice Center at Archbold Memorial Hospital so our community’s needs can be met throughout every stage of life. Archbold has always been a regional leader in healthcare, and the inpatient hospice center is one more addition to our well-rounded medical center. —John Brinson
