ARCHBOLD.ORG • SUMMER 2018 21 ARCHBOLD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL’S three system hospitals—Brooks County Hospital, Grady General Hospital and Mitchell County Hospital—have benefited from the generous support of donors taking advantage of the Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit bill (State Bill 258) since the program was introduced in 2017. And now, Archbold Memorial Hospital has been added to the select list of rural hospitals in Georgia that are eligible to receive funds through the program. The bill offers a rare state tax credit to Georgia taxpayers and C-corporations that donate funds through the Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program to rural hospitals determined by the Georgia Department of Community Health to have financial need. Get in on the giving Giving made even easier On March 29, 2018, Georgia lawmak- ers passed legislation that enhanced the Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program. Governor Nathan Deal signed the bill on May 2, and the new legisla- tion went into effect on July 1, 2018. The enhancements include: •  Georgia income tax credit for contri- butions to rural hospital organizations will increase from 90 to 100 percent. •  Owners of pass-through entities, such as sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs and S corporations, will now spe- cifically qualify as eligible contributors. •  The Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program was extended through the year 2021. •  Donations now may be made through credit card payments. The Georgia tax credit program makes $60 million of income tax credits available to Georgia taxpayers, with each qualified rural hospital having access to $4 million of tax credits, until the total Who can give?
