Awarding greatness Patients and their family members can nominate Archbold nurses for the DAISY award. Award recipients are chosen by a committee composed of Archbold nurses and leadership team members. Awards are presented throughout the year, and hon- orees’ colleagues, family members and nominators are invited to attend. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him as an “Extraordinary Nurse.” Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful hand-carved sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.” “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations nationally participating in the DAISY Award program,” said Amy Griffin, RN, MSN, Vice President of patient care services at Archbold. “It’s important to us that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and the DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.” To nominate an Archbold nurse for the DAISY Award, visit www.archbold.org/DAISY . 22 ARCHBOLD MEDICAL CENTER DAISY AWARDS HONOR EXTRAORDINARY CARE AT ARCHBOLD THIS SPRING, Archbold Memorial Hospital launched a new award program to recognize nurses who have gone above and beyond their clinical duties for their patients. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recognizes the extraordinary, compassionate care that nurses provide patients and families every day. “Reward and recognition is very important to us as an organi- zation,” said Perry Mustian, Archbold president and CEO. “We are constantly trying to find new ways to personally and visibly celebrate the accomplishments of our team. We are proud to use the DAISY Award program to recognize our exceptional nurses.” The DAISY story The DAISY Award is offered through the DAISY Foundation, a not- for-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
